Christmas Morning…

Abbey woke us up bright and early on Christmas morning. She came running into our room so full of surprise and happiness that Santa had actually been here and left presents under the tree. We sang happy birthday to Jesus. Mike went out to buy coffee and hot chocolate for us because of course I forgot to buy some, uggg. When he got back we gathered around the tree and what do you think happened on Blakes first Christmas…my camcorder goes out. Won’t record for anything and Mike left his in VA. So all I have are still pics. Everyone was very happy with their gifts, lots of toys, Krista got an awesome radio with a t.v. in it from my MIL, my new Rebel XT, and Mike was very surprised with his new black iPod. I will be back to regular posting soon. Working on a new banner. Here are some pics of us opening our presents, as usual I’m not in many of them but I look horrible so I dont mind at all 🙂

Christmas Eve Dinner…

Sorry my post are so behind but I am sure you know how busy it can get at Cristmas. I finally completed all of my shopping on the Thursday before Christmas. My hubby arrived home safely on Friday which was the best Christmas present ever, he had been gone for almost 1 month. Keeping it short and leaving you with pics of the food I prepared for Christmas Eve dinner. After what happened on Thanksgiving (I didn’t cook) I decided I had better make up for it on Christmas so I went all out. These are only a few pics of what I cooked. We had enough for an army with plenty of leftovers for Christmas day and the week to follow. Also there is a pic of Abbey leaving milk and cookies for Santa….

Okay you guys, I am completly exhausted. We went up to the OC for some shopping and spent 7 hours in the mall, uggg. I hate the mall and the worst part of today was that my shoes hurt so bad I had to take them off and walk barefoot until I could find some cheap shoes to buy cause I was totally dying blisters galore from a pair of $77 Enzo Angiolini shoes. I would think that a good shoe would be more comfortable. Spend a good 25 min. in line for Santa pics, will post later. And…. I really didn’t buy anything, well Krista got all most of her gifts which are clothes. I let her pick them out herself because if I do it she won’t wear them, she’s like that. Plus…. they had a fire alarm. I have never experienced anything like it at a mall. It sound so scary. A very loud siren came on and this guy announced that a fire had been reported in the mall and for everyone to evacuate. So what do I do? I run over to Pottery Barn Kids, barefoot I might add. Nothing was going to keep me from that store, it’s been over 5 months since I’ve been there. All I could picture in my mind were new reports saying, “Everyone got out safe minus one woman who insisted on staying to shop in PBK. No but really folks, I would not put my family in danger. The sales girls said that the alarm had been going off all day and as soon as I made it in the door of PBK they announced that it was actually a false alarm.
More shopping tomorrow, almost done. Very tired, time for bed.

Well I finally decided to do a little decorating even though I said we were going to be the Kranks this year and not do any. I saw the coolest little ornaments last week at Stein Mart and on Sat. they were half off so I couldn’t resist. I have always wanted to go with a pink, red, and green theme so this year I did. I bought a small white tree. Tried to keep it as cheap as I could since Mike throws our trees away every time we move 🙂 ( love you honey) And I bought a set of three small trees for the upstairs balcony area. Abbey and Krista had a good time decorating them. Although I had to go back after they were done to rearrange all of the ornaments because Abbey put about 6 on on branch, too funny when they do that. But she did a great job. She’s my little helper. She always says, I’m your best helper mommy. Yes, Abbey you are the best helper in the world.

Also got my goodies from my 2peas Secret Santa. It was so much fun doing this. I love things like that. Here’s what I got. Can wait to use it all…

My thread in The Pub explains the story behind the 2peas name change. Honestly it just hit me like a ton of bricks so I did it. I had such a busy week and today was no exception. Dawn posted a thread the other day asking how, in todays busy SAHM lifestyle, do people get their scrapping done. I am totally a multi-tasker but today I think I over did it. I set goal and I was determine to met them. By the time noon rolled around I was beat. I loaded up the kids, took Krista to school, finished a project this morning, feed baby, left peapraise, made my morning calls (these 3 all at the same time), submitted lo’s, put the baby down, rushed to get Abbey bathed, and trust me with all that hair, it is not an easy job, while she was in the bath, I threw a load in the wash and ran back upstairs to do the vacuming including all 16 stairs, whooweee.

I was so tired but my mind was going and as usual I started to praise God mentally. Have you ever seen that classic skit on Saturday Night Live with Sally Field. The one where she is a housewife and every move she makes she has to stop and ask Jesus for guidence, (I mean even to pour a cup of coffee). Well He finally showed up in her kitchen and sat her down for a heart to heart to explain to her that she doesn’t have to ask Him for guidence on every single task in her life. It was so hilarious. Anyway, that is who I remind myself of, but not in the asking part, I constantly praise in my mind. I don’t know how normal that is but I am so sincerly grateful to God for all of His blessings that I guess I go overboard sometimes. But really, I don’t think He minds and I KNOW He is not going to show up in my kitchen and ask me to stop, 🙂

Here are my pics for today, Blakes first taste of baby food, gotta love it…

Even though there is so much stress and chaos that comes before Christmas, Christmas day always seems to find itself quiet, calm and peaceful in our home. I like to think it is because Christmas day is such a special and holy day. It is the day our Savior, The Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ was born. He brings calm to us on His birthday.

Over the years we have had various traditions. For Krista and I, there is a before we met Mike and after we met Mike. Before Mike, the tradition was that we would go to midnight mass and I would sing in the Christmas choir. Then we would go to our Aunts house where half of our family members would gather to make tamales and open gifts at midnight. That tradition never really worked for me because Krista would never have her gifts there. She would have to sit there and watch others open gifts, yet she would have to wait to get home to open hers. That was one of the problems with being a single mom, sometimes we would be put in positions where it was just me and her in a group of others and we really didn’t get that “family” feel.

But glory, glory came the day that we met our sweetest Mike and our lives changed. No longer did we have to be alone 🙂 And no longer were we Catholic (please, no offense to anyone). So no more Christmas at Auntie’s house and no more midnight mass.

We are still a fairly new family so we are working on those traditions that will be carried on. First is church, I definately want my children to know the reason for Christmas. I dont’ do choir anymore because every year we are at a new church because we move so much.
So far we have been following the traditions that Mike grew up with for Christmas morning. We get all the kids up, we go downstairs and gather around the tree. Spice tea is made and served to all. Then Daddy hands out the gifts one at a time with every one having a turn to open theirs so everyone can see what they got. The circle of gifts goes on until all are open. During all of this Mom, (that’s me, lol), is trying to find somewhere to put the camcorder so it won’ fall over and so she can get into the movie herself and belive it or not this camcorder deal is every single year. Maybe Santa will get me a tripod so I can stop struggling. The rest of the day is spent playing with all of our new toys and watching football with Dad.

This year I will add doing something for another person or family in need. I blogged it before (about the Tijuana trip), and I want that to be a tradition for our family. The gift of giving and showing God’s love to others is amazing to me. To help one person know Jesus and His love gives me an overwhelming feeling in my heart. It literally, and I do mean literally, makes me tear up just thinking about Him, about His promises and His miracles.

We are so happy to finally have a complete family to built more and more traditions with every year.

And I have to leave you with Abbey’s best shots for today, especially for her Daddy…
