This is totally not what I was going to blog about tonight. But then again I really didnt have anything specific I was going to blog about. So, Krista found some pretty cool pics of back home , Houston, and I thought I would steal them off the interent and share some of our memories. I cannot believe these pics were found. We even found a pic of the old house we used to live in. It is really strange looking through all the Houston pics that were on that site because I recognized all of them, and Houston is a very large city. It just brought alot of memories and emotion back. I think it is funny how one can know a city like the back of her hand. I lived there all my life, born and raised and when looking at the pics, I felt like I was looking at a part of ME! Very strange to be gone so long and then see it again. I have mixed emotions about going back to visit. I always said I could care less if I ever see Houston again, but how could anyone really say that about home, right?
Enjoy!
This is Houston, I lived right inside of that loop freeway.
I have posted before about my struggles and how difficult things were when I was a single mother. Only through Christ did I make it through. This is a pic that we found on the internet of our first house. It is the yellow house in the pic. The white building next door was an abandoned building that burnt down and across the street was an old car lot. This is the house where we lived for 5 years. It is practically in downtown Houston and wasnt the best of neighborhoods. It was a duplex, I lived on the right side and my neighbor was actually a person that was my neighbor when I was a child, his mom still lives next door to my mom. This was actually his grandmothers house and they rented it to me when she passed away. Boy, looking at this pic, I really can’t believe how far I have come. It reminds me of all the struggles, dreams, wild parties, so many memories good and bad. This is the house that my Mike rescued us from 🙂 AMEN!
This is the hospital where Krista was born, Jefferson Davis. It has since been shut down and was supposed to be torn down but I think it’s still standing. I remeber the day I went into labor and walking up the side ramp of those stairs. I was 18 years old, if I knew then what I know now, honey let me tell you, things would have been so different, lol, but God has a plan 🙂
We lived in the heart of the artist district. This is a pic of some structures that were near our house. The artist actually did a head sculpture of every U.S. president and they have been moved somewhere in VA. Funny, so were we.
Not sure which event this was but I love this shot. It truly shows the spirit of Houston and what downtown looks like when we all get out to party!
This is the Hollywood video that we used to go to.
This is a house in the art district. I actually have never seen it in real life. Too cool huh.
This is the Galleria mall during Christmas. It is such a beautiful mall, 3 levels and an ice rink right in the middle of it. Spend many many days there.
This is Foley’s on Main street downtown. The oldest original retail store in downtown. My grandmother used to shop there as a little girl.
I really like to learn things about my friends. Things that are not everyday common knowledge type of things but random things. So I thought it would be cool to post a random thing about myself everyday on my blog, just because. If you like, leave me a comment with a random thing about yourself. I am sure it will make me smile 🙂
Random about me fact…
Don’t judge me on this one but…I grew up in the barrio, yep folks, thats right, the hood. We had gang signs and all, lol
